Work of the Week - Tatjana Komarova: Dialogische Essenzen

On Monday 3rd October the world premiere of Tatjana Komarova’s new double concerto Dialogische Essenzen will be presented at the final concert of the 10th Kronberg Academy’s Cello Festival. This very special event will bring soloists Tomoko Akasaka (viola) and Danjulo Ishizaka (cello) together with the Kremerata Baltica and conductor Roman Kofman for what will be one of the highlights of the festival.

Writing about the background for her new work, Komarova states:

It is a special task to compose a work for people one knows. When the cellist Danjulo Ishizaka and viola player Tomoko Akasaka asked me to compose a double concerto for them, I was delighted to accept. The two musicians, also a couple in real life, and I are linked in both musical and personal friendship. My intention for the work was to permit two interesting but very dissimilar characters to speak through the voices of their respective instruments and therefore entitled my composition Dialogische Essenzen for viola and cello. I selected a string orchestra with percussion as the background for this fascinating dialogue (Tatjana Komarova)

Later the same evening, the Kremerata Baltica will give a second performance, this time with cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and his interpretation of Henze’s Introduktion, Thema und Variationen. On the 30th of September Hindemith's Sonate (Op. 11/3) will be performed by Natalia Gutman (cello) and Viacheslav Poprugin (piano) followed by a performance of Gavin Bryars’ Tre Laude Dolce by cellist Matthew Barley.
