Dartington International Summer Schoool
The 2011 Dartington International Summer School began this week and will continue for the next five weeks with numerous concerts and events. Sir Michael Tippett and Huw Watkins' music will be featured prominently throughout the summer school and other works by Ligeti, Hindemith, Grainger and Gerald Barry will also be performed.
Week two, beginning on Saturday 30th July, will focus on opera and song and a highlight will be the complete song cycles of Sir Michael Tippett along with some of Tippett's realisations of songs by Henry Purcell all performed by the tenor Robert Murray and pianist Huw Watkins.
Watkins' own chamber music will also be performed during the summer school including Four Inventions for piano, Two Chorals for clarinet and piano and Romances for piano. Tippett's Ritual Dances preformed by the Darting Festival Orchestra conducted by Sian Edwards can also be heard on Wednesday 10th August in the Great Hall.
