Golden Lion of the Venice Biennale for Peter Eötvös
The Hungarian composer and conductor Peter Eötvös is awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival. The award will be presented at the 55th International Festival of Contemporary Music in Venice from 24 September to 1 October.
According to the announcement of the Film Festival, Eötvös is one of the most successful composers of recent years and a top-level orchestra director.
Most recently, Eötvös composed the solo concerto Cello Concerto Grosso for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and cellist Miklós Perényi which was premiered in Berlin on 16 June 2011 under the composer's direction.
