Fragmentation is an ever-recurring phenomenon in the works of Aribert Reimann, not only characterising his symphonic forms as in Ein apokalyptisches Fragment or the Sieben Fragmente for orchestra, but also lieder such as the cycle ... oder soll es Tod bedeuten?.

Now the Berlin composer’s Rilke-Fragmente will receive its première at the Kissinger LiederWerkstatt which has for some years now been regarded as a significant initiator and forum of contemporary lieder. The artistic director of this series, Axel Bauni, will accompany the soprano Caroline Melzer in the first performance. Melzer has already attracted attention as a performer of Reimann’s music with the Sonett Die Liebende abermals and as Cordelia in the opera Lear at the Komische Oper in Berlin – which she reprises this December.
