Work of the Week - Huw Watkins: Speak Seven Seas

Huw Watkins will be the composer in residence at this years Spannungen: Musik im Kraftwerk Heimbach Festival where the world premiere of Speak Seven Seas, a new trio commissioned for the occasion is set to be one of the festival highlights. The new work for the unusual combination of clarinet, viola and piano takes its title from a line within Dylan Thomas' Author's Prologue and will receive its first performance by Sebastian Manz (clarinet), Florian Dondrer (viola) and the composer himself as pianist on Friday 10 June 2011 at Heimbach power station.
Watkins' Horn Trio and Suite for harp will also be performed at the festival and the composer will be prominent as a pianist in other recitals. More of Huw Watkins' chamber music by can be heard in September later in the year at the Nürnberg International Chamber Music Festival where the composer's chamber music will be in focus once again.
