Work of the Week - Olli Mustonen: Fanfaari

Concert fanfares, short rousing opening pieces, have become an interesting playground for both composers and presenters during the last couple of years and many orchestras have commissioned new works like these for their concert seasons.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra approached Finnish composer Olli Mustonen, who, as a pianist, has performed with the orchestra many times, and commissioned a fanfare for the final concerts of their season. Entitled Fanfaari, the world premiere will take place before the orchestra's semi-staged performance of Puccini´s Madama Butterfly.
