Excerpts from Douglas J. Cuomo’s Arjuna’s Dilemma Performed at 21c Liederabend
21c Liederabend, a three-evening festival of contemporary art song, musical theater, and opera, presents a performance of the "Vision" section of Douglas J. Cuomo’s opera, Arjuna’s Dilemma. Tony Boutté reprises the role of Arjuna, which he premiered and subsequently recorded, and is joined by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus singing the role of Krishna. Percussionist Rex Benincasa, clarinetist Christa Van Alstine, flutist Eric Lamb, and bassist Logan Coale accompany the singers.
21c Liederabend is co-produced by Beth Morrison Projects, Opera on Tap, and VisionIntoArt, resulting in a festival that includes projection design, original film, and theatrical lighting. Music from Douglas J. Cuomo’s Arjuna’s Dilemma is performed on April 8 at The Kitchen, New York’s legendary experimental concert venue alongside new works by such composers as Phil Kline, Du Yun, John Zorn, and Ted Hearne.
