Henze featured twice in Guardian's 2010 round up
The Guardian newspaper's 2010 classical music round up has has highlighted not one but two events based around the music of Hans Werner Henze.
Music critic Fiona Maddocks included both the Henze Total Immersion weekend held at London's Barbican Centre in January and the Engligh National Opera / Young Vic produciton of the composer's opera Elegy for Young Lovers in her top 10 of 2010. Both occasions were attented by the composer and were highly praised in the press.
The Henze Total Immersion weekend featuring stunning performances of Voices by students from the Guildhall New Music Ensemble conducted by Ryan Wigglesworth, Symphony No. 4 and Fraternité by the BBC Symphony Orchestra with conductor Oliver Knussen and solo piano music performed by Huw Watkins. Elegy for Young Lovers directed by Fiona Shaw recieved rave reviews: "compelling [...] the power of Henze's wiry, intense score for an ensemble of 23 players emerges, especially in this performance, superbly conducted by Stefan Blunier."
