New Publications from Schott Music, New York
Another wave of new publications from Schott Music Corporation is now available just in time for the holidays. We hope our new publications offer more food for thought as you search for that perfect holiday gift for music-lovers on your list.
Bernard Rands: Walcott Songs-In Walcott Songs the composer aims for the poems of Derek Walcott to find new meanings and expression, in a musical context, often beyond that imagined or intended by the poet. Through Rands' unique setting, the words are analyzed and explored through fragmentation, reordering, repetitions and changing pace of delivery.
Gilda Lyons: Songs from the F Train-Songs from the F Train is a compilation of poems written by three Brooklyn school children and set to music by Gilda Lyons. The students were participants in a poetry workshop led by Brooklyn writer Angeli Rasbury in Fort Greene. This composition is the first commissioned work of American Opera Projects' program I Hear America Singing. Inspired by the poem by Walt Whitman, I Hear America Singing is a new music initiative that commissions composers to create operatic songs based on the poetry and prose of Americans of all ages and all walks of life. Created by American Opera Projects and the Walt Whitman Project in 2009, I Hear America Singing seeks to express the varied thoughts, feelings, and stories of the people of our nation into a communal voice that will resonate for all.
Lee Hoiby: The Christmas Tree (octavo for SATB chorus a cappella)- Lee Hoiby’s rapturous holiday concert piece The Christmas Tree saw its world premiere on December 12, 2009 by the Cathedral Choral Society led by J. Reilly Lewis in Washington D.C. in its version for chorus, organ, brass and percussion. The work is the most recent in Lee Hoiby’s celebrated catalogue of holiday music and the brand new octavo for a cappella performance is now in stores world-wide.
