New and Upcoming Publications from Schott Music
The start of another busy performance season brings with it a rush of new scores into music stores from the offices of Schott New York, London and Mainz. First off, Schott Mainz announces the release of a series of Hebrew choral works, newly discovered and published for the first time, from Viktor Ullmann.
Schott London has just released five new publications: Kenneth Hesketh’s Die hängende Figur ist Judas for solo cello; Peter Maxwell-Davies’ Carol: Ave Plena Gracia for mixed choir and optional organ; Michael Tippett’s Prelude, Recicative and Aria for flute, oboe, harpsichord or piano; and Gavin Bryars’ Ramble on Cortona for piano and Super Flumina for four male voices a cappella. A brand new work for solo piano, Bryars’ Ramble on Cortona borrows the term “Ramble” from Percy Grainger whom Bryars has always admired both as a composer and pianist. Others might call it a “Paraphrase” but Bryars’ Ramble is based on themes from his vocal laude which derive from 13th-century manuscripts found in Cortona.
Schott New York’s recent offerings include Tobias Picker Songs, Kamran Ince’s MKG Variations for guitar, Kurt Weill’s Klops Lied for voices and ensemble, Alvin Singleton’s Argoru VIII for solo snare drum, Joseph Schwantner’s Looking Back for flute and piano and Robert Beaser’s Sonata for Violin and Piano. New publications soon to be released from Schott NY include: Gilda Lyon's Songs from the F Train, Alvin Singleton’s Between Sisters, Bernard Rands’ Walcott Songs, and selected arias from the operas of Tobias Picker including the Ghost Aria from Thérèse Raquin.
