New Works by Douglas J. Cuomo Heard Across New York City and on PBS
The music of Douglas J. Cuomo is seeing performances around New York City this month beginning with Mary Rowell who gave the New York premiere of Cuomo's A Far Playground for viola and piano with pianist Geoffrey Burleson on June 8. Part of the Tribeca New Music Festival at Merkin Concert Hall, the concert featured the New York Art Ensemble Monsters. Every work on the program was composed specifically for the ensemble members who include Rowell and Burleson, Eve Beglarian, Oleg Dubson, and Kathleen Supové.
On June 27, violinist Shem Guibbory and percussionist Rex Benincasa premiere Cuomo's Slowly She Turned at Joe's Pub in downtown Manhattan. Guibbory performs the piece, which was written for him, as part of the CD release party for the new album Voice of the People, available on MSO Classics.
Also on PBS each week, the new hour-long news program Need to Know features newly penned theme music by Cuomo.
