Work of the Week - Enjott Schneider: Movie Themes Made in Germany

On 24 July Enjott Schneider’s film suite Movie Themes made in Germany will be premiered during the grand opening gala event of the Munich Film Festival 2010 in the huge permanent tent of Circus Krone. With the theme "Cinema in Concert", the Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra will present the greatest works in the history of film scores under the baton of Ulf Schirmer. Lighting effects and video projections complete the event.

In Movie Themes made in Germany Schneider, who holds a chair for film composition at the Munich Conservatory, combines the most outstanding pieces from his soundtracks "Herbstmilch", "Rama Dama", "Wildfeuer" and "Stalingrad" (all directed by Joseph Vilsmaier) and „Jahrestage“by Margarethe von Trotta. His scores have been awarded numerous renowned national and European film prizes.

The airfield scene from "Stalingrad" opens the suite where soldiers fight for the last seat on the last aircraft leaving the battlefield. A post-war love story follows in the passage from "Rama Dama" using a catchy romantic theme based on the Lydian scale. The opening title "Time goes bye" from the award-winning "Herbstmilch" is arranged as a distorted valse to close the piece.

Further highlights of the evening include Howard Shore’s famous scores from The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring, The Fly and Aviator.
