Keys to the Future Festival Features Music of Ligeti and Silvestrov

Keys to the Future, New York's only festival of contemporary solo piano music, is back for its fifth season and this year includes performances of the music of 20th-century masters György Ligeti and Valentin Silvestrov. The festival is held under the roof of downtown Manhattan's Le Poisson Rouge from Tuesday, May 25 through Thursday, May 27 and each evening features a different program resulting in a unique and extensive survey of contemporary piano music. Featured pianists include Amy Briggs, Blair McMillen, Tatjana Rankovich, Eric Huebner, Lisa Moore, Marina Lomazov, Stephen Gosling, Molly Morkoski, Karén Hakobyan and the festival’s Artistic Director Joseph Rubenstein.

On Tuesday, May 25 at 7:30PM, Joseph Rubenstein performs Silvestrov's Hymne-2001, and on Wednesday evening, Lisa Moore performs the Ukraine composer's Bagatelle. Representative of Silvestrov's tonal meta-music style, Hymne and Bagatelle are pensive and serene pieces that look back to the classical sensibilities of Schubert and in particular, his 6 Moments Musicaux. The Bagatelles of Silvestrov are commercially available on the ECM recording Valentin Silvestrov: Bagatellen und Serenaden.

Tuesday evening's recital also includes Molly Morkoski performing Fém, Arc-en-ciel and Désordre from György Ligeti's piano etude cycle.
