Alexander Goehr Study Day

London's Wigmore Hall, in partnership with the Royal Northern College of Music, will hold a day long series of events focusing on the music of the esteemed composer Alexander Goehr.

Starting at 10am, the day’s three concerts will feature works of instrumental, vocal and chamber music that span a period of nearly fifty years – from the late 1950s, following Goehr’s early days as a student at the Royal Manchester College of Music, through to the present day. The day closes with a performance of Sing, Ariel, a cantata from the 1990s which pays homage to, among others, his teacher Olivier Messiaen.

Two of Goehr’s former pupils, George Benjamin and Anthony Gilbert, will join him in two study events during the day, an opportunity to hear the composer speak about his life, his teaching and his music.

The Royal Northern College will be presenting another serives of events focusing of Goehr. Sing, Ariel, The Music of Alexander Goehr will take place on the 8th and 9th June in Manchester and will include a performance by the BBC Philharmonic conducted by H K Gruber of the world premiere of Tower Music.
