John Casken - Deadly Pleasures

John Casken's vividly theatrical setting of D M Thomas' retelling of Pushkin's poem depicting the sultry self-indulgence of Cleopatra's court finally comes to London as part of a national tour by Counterpoise and actress Johanna Lonsky.  Deadly Pleasures will be performed at Kings Place in London at 8pm on Monday 29th March 2010. The work, which is scored for saxophone, trumpet, piano, violin and narrator mixes the genres of contemporary music and spoken word to present a compellingly macabre sequence of events.

Previously performed at the Ulverston Festival, Corsham Festival and in Southampton and Cardiff, conterpoises programme has already been critically acclaimed by the press.  Future performances of Deadly Pleasures are scheduled for Brighton Festival (4 May), Dorking, Surry (8 May) and Kingson on Thames (21 May).
