Sir Peter Maxwell Davies - Featured composer at the NEC Prep Contemporary Festival

Sir Peter Maxwell Davies will be the featured composer at The New England Conservatory Preparatory School’s 20th annual "Today's Youth Perform Today's Music" Festival at the end of January.  Over the weekend more than 20 works (including many US premieres) by Maxwell Davies will be performed by students from the world renowned establishment.

The annual “Today’s Youth Perform Today’s Music” festival was founded in 1991 by NEC faculty members Rodney Lister and John Ziarko to give students practical opportunities to study the performance skills required for contemporary music.  Led by some of the world's most high profile composers, students are given access to workshops, seminars, and coaching which culminates in a weekend's festival of new music.

Highlights of this year’s festival will include the US premiere of the highly demanding 2008 Sonata for cello and piano, the Sandy Fiddle Club music Start Point, a performance of the early op. 2 Five Piano Pieces and  the US premiere of A Birthday Card for Prince Charles by the Prep String Chamber Orchestra.
