Krzysztof Penderecki in Residency at University of Toronto's New Music Festival

The University of Toronto presents its annual New Music Festival from January 25 through 31 which this year hosts Krzysztof Penderecki as the Roger D. Moore Distinguished Visitor in Composition. The festival features 30 performances of all manner of works by Penderecki including the North American premiere of Kaddish, composed on the occasion of the 65th Anniversary of the Liquidation of the Lodz Ghetto for the "Encounters with Jewish Culture" project in Lodz this past summer. Commissioned by the City of Lodz, the work continues Penderecki's life-long series of sacred works which includes St. Luke´s Passion, Dies Irae, The Polish Requiem, Te Deum, Credo and Seven Gates of Jerusalem. Performances, panel discussions and forums take place across the University of Toronto campus throughout the festival.
