London Symphony Orchestra performs Jörg Widmann's Violin Concerto
Jörg Widmann’s emotionally draining violin concerto will be performed on Thursday 12th November at London’s Barbican Hall by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by their principal guest conductor Daniel Harding. The soloist will be Christian Tetzlaff for whom the concerto was written in 2007.
The dazzling energy of the violin concerto will be in stark contrast with Mahler’s darkly passionate sixth symphony which forms the second half of the concert. Widmann’s work will test Tetzlaff’s virtuosic playing throughout the 30 minute piece as it demands that the soloist perform almost with out a break. Starting alone, the violin is soon joined by dark orchestral colours before continuing its exploration of the extreme nuances of tempo and sound.
