Network for New Music Presents An Evening of Bernard Rands

Celebrating its 25th year in 2009-2010, Philadelphia's Network for New Music begins its special anniversary season with a concert of the music of Bernard Rands, including his ensemble works "now again" - fragments from Sappho, Prelude...sans voix parmi les voix, Scherzi, and Walcott Songs. Mezzo-soprano Janice Felty performs with the ensemble which is led by Jan Krzywicki. Network for New Music has had a long and rewarding performance history with the music of Bernard Rands, including its premiere of Rands' "now again"...fragments from Sappho in 2006 and its commission of "Trinidad, Tobago", a movement from Rands' heralded song cycle Walcott Songs for mezzo-soprano and cello. The concert takes place on Sunday November 1 at 3PM at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia.

Later this month Network for New Music will record these same works for a future release on Albany Records. Janice Felty, the featured mezzo-soprano on Sunday's concert who also sang the world premiere of "now again" -fragments from Sappho, will also perform on the Albany recording.
