Manitoba Chamber Orchestra to Tour Joe Duddell's 'Snowblind'

The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra performs Joe Duddell's Snowblind for percussion and orchestra on its September 2009 tour of Western Canada, stopping in over ten cities in Manitoba, British Columbia, and Alberta. Part of the orchestra's first program of their season, Snowblind is performed by world-renowned percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie under conductor Anne Manson. Glennie, who has collaborated with Björk, Fred Frith, and other contemporary composers, is a perfect fit for Duddell's music, with its overtones of minimalism and experimental rock music combined with virtuosic percussion writing. The tour will take the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and Dame Glennie through Manitoba, to eight dates in British Columbia, one in Alberta, and finally back to Brandon, Manitoba, where the orchestra is based. Later in the 09/10 season, Dame Glennie performs the work again with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Alfred Savia.
