Gerald Barry joins Schott Music

We are delighted to announce that Schott Music is now the exclusive publisher of the distinguished composer Gerald Barry. Barry was born in Ireland in 1952 and studied composition with Stockhausen and Kagel. In an esteemed 24 year career with Oxford University Press (OUP) he has received commissions from major orchestras, ensembles and performers.  Radio stations have also supported him with commissions from the BBC, Radio France, RTE and Hessische Rundfunk and he was the last composer commissioned by renowned arts patron Betty Freemen. His operas in particular have enjoyed worldwide success with performances at the Aldeburgh Festival, Berliner Festwochen, London, Los Angeles, Paris (Presences Festival), Amsterdam, Basle and New York. His works have been performed in Germany too by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra amongst others. His music has been recorded on the NMC, Largo, Black Box, Marco Polo and Challen ge labels.

Upcoming projects include an opera, The Importance of Being Earnest, for Los Angeles and London (2011/12), Feldman’s Six-Penny Editions for the London Sinfonietta and St Paul Chamber Orchestra (2011) and, first up, Schott & Sons, Mainz a co-commission from the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, Ars Nova Copenhagen and Coro Casa da Musica Porto, an account of Beethoven’s relationship with Schott during the last three years of his life.
