Peteris Vasks at Katrina Festival

The 10th Katrina Chamber Music Festival from 3rd to 8th of August on the Finnish Åland-Islands north-east of Stockholm is featuring Latvian composer Peteris Vasks as the Composer of the Year. A wide range of his chamber music works will be presented in a series of concerts, including Little Summer Music, the 2nd wind quintet Music for a deceased friend, the 4th string quartet, Sonata of Loneliness for guitar and the Concerto for violin and string orchestra Distant light.

The Katrina Chamber Music Festival is characterized by its unique venues. Its enchanting churches and intimate private rooms are perfect  for chamber music. In addition to the concerts the audience will have access to open rehearsals, where one can see how musicians and guest composers put the finishing touches on their works.

Among others John Storgårds (violin), Marko Ylönen (cello), the Tempera Quartet, Ieva Jokubaviciute (piano) and the Tallin Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Juha Kangas will perform at the festival.
