Joe Duddell - Work of the Week: Orchestrations of Elbow songs

Manchester born composer Joe Duddell will take the stage this week with award winning rock band Elbow, the Hallé orchestra and the Manchester Youth Choir in a unique collaboration that will be one of the highlights of the Manchester International Festival. Taking songs that span Elbow's highly successful career, Duddell has orchestrated, extended and rewritten the band's music to incorporate all performers into one large ensemble ensuring that the project will be a true collaboration.
Video interviews with Joe Duddell and Elbow front man Guy Garvey have been made available by the festival on their website, highlighting the strength of the partnership and their love of the the city. Duddell also received a special commendation at the 2009 Best of Manchester Awards in recognition of his work as curator, orchestrater and conductor of the project.
Joe Duddell conducts Elbow and the Hallé for two nights only on 8th and 9th July at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. The performance on Thursday 9th July will be relayed live to a big screen in open air Castlefield Arena.
