NMC Songbook

The record label NMC celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion 100, new songs from British composers have been commissioned.  The result of the ambitious project is the NMC songbook which proudly aims to highlight the artistic diversity within the UK’s new music scene.  Schott composers Gavin Bryars, John Casken, Joe Duddell, Alexander Goehr and Huw Watkins have each written a song for the NMC songbook and the works will be performed within a series of concerts that will take place this week in London’s newest concert hall, Kings Place.

Huw Watkins’ Proud Maisie… : Claire Booth (soprano) and Watkins himself as pianist at 19.30 on Wednesday 1st April.

Alexander Goehr’s Ulisses' Admonition to Achilles: Roderick Williams (baritone) and Andrew Ball (piano) at 19.30 on Thursday 2nd April.

John Casken’s Night and Morning: Daniel Norman (tenor) and Andrew Ball (piano) at 20.45 on Thursday 2nd April.

Gavin Bryars’ Old Man and Sea, a setting of a poem by George Bruce: Adrian Ward (tenor) and Lucy Wakeford (harp) at 20.45 on Friday 3rd April.

Joe Duddell’s Cease Sorrow Now: George Mosley (baritone) and Iain Burnside at 20.45 on Saturday 4th April.
