Work of the Week - Kenneth Hesketh: Wunderkammer(konzert)

Following the success of the BBC Proms première of Ken Hesketh’s Graven Image by Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra this summer, his latest work Wunderkammer(konzert) will receive its world premiere on Wednesday 19 November with the RLPO's Ensemble 10/10 conducted by Clark Rundell at Liverpool’s Cornerstone.

Wunderkammer(konzert) is a challenging work for twelve players in three movements lasting about 20 minutes, full of wit and humour and a great showcase for the exceptional virtuosity of this ensemble. Hesketh writes that the “work has at its heart a desire to look both forwards and backwards within my own music and to tread pathways that radiate out in other directions”, an indication the this work may be the start of a new compositional pathway.

Hesketh was appointed “Composer in the house” with the RLPO in September 2007 and has written a series of works for the orchestra, its choir and ensemble, and for schools in the Liverpool area. A new orchestral work Pattersongs will be premiered by RLP Youth Orchestra in March 2009.
