Schott/EAM New Season Preview

September brings the start of another anticipated season packed with performances from the Schott/EAM family. Here is just a sampling of the many highlights from our catalogues this season.

 

Thomas Adès

  • The Emerson String Quartet premieres Thomas Adès' new string quartet at Carnegie Hall on February 8.

Julian Anderson

  • The Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst present the world premiere of Anderson's new work commissioned by The Cleveland Orchestra as part of the Daniel R. Lewis Young Composer Fellowship on November 6, 7, 8.
  • The National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Oliver Knussen perform the US Premiere of Imagin'd Corners, May 7, 8, 9.

Robert Beaser

  • World premiere of Guitar Concerto performed by guitarist Eliot Fisk and the Albany Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Alan Miller on February 26. New York premiere scheduled for May 1 at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, performed by American Composers Orchestra under the direction of Dennis Russell Davies.

Douglas J. Cuomo

  • The Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival presents the New York premiere of Douglas J. Cuomo's chamber opera Arjuna's Dilemma, produced by Music-Theater Group, on November 5 conducted by Alan Johnson and directed by Robin Guarino.

Peter Eötvös

  • Carnegie Hall's Celebrating Hungary series presents an evening of the music of Peter Eötvös including his Snatches of a Conversation and Encore. Eötvös appears as conductor and pianist in this program on January 29.

George Gershwin

  • Lyric Opera of Chicago presents 13 performances of George and Ira Gershwin's Porgy and Bess from November 18 through December 19.  Porgy and Bess also sees seven performances next June at San Francisco Opera.

Georg Friedrich Haas

  • In Vain sees its US premiere by the Argento Ensemble at Columbia University's Miller Theater in New York City, February 6.

Lee Hoiby

  • World premiere of Jacob's Ladder for chorus, organ and brass quintet on November 30 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York

Kamran Ince

  • American Composers Orchestra and conductor Jeffrey Milarsky present the New York premiere of Domes on November 14 at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. Follow up performance on November 16 at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. 

Oliver Knussen

  • World premiere of Cleveland Pictures performed by The Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst on March 12 and 14.

Ernst Krenek

  • James Conlon conducts singers from The Juilliard Opera Center and The Juilliard Orchestra through Krenek's Schwergewicht on November 12, 14 and 16.

Thomas Larcher

  • American Composers Orchestra and Dennis Russell Davies perform the US premiere of Böse Zellen, featuring Thomas Larcher on piano, May 1 at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall.

Bruce MacCombie

  • James DePriest and The Juilliard Orchestra perform the world premiere of Samsara Rounds on February 17 at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.

Andrew Norman

  • World premiere of Unstuck performed by the Tonhalle Orchester-Zürich and conductor Michael Sanderling on September 9 in Zürich.
Krzysztof Penderecki
  • The Philadelphia Orchestra and conductor Charles Dutoit perform the US premiere of Penderecki's Concerto Grosso No. 1 on October 10 followed by an all Penderecki chamber concert on October 12 in celebration of the composer's 75th birthday.

Tobias Picker

  • The American String Quartet performs the world premiere of String Quartet No. 2, Scenes Without Words. Performance on January 17, at Merkin Concert Hall of the Kaufman Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Dicapo Opera Theatre of New York presents the world premiere of the reduced version of Fantastic Mr. Fox, conducted by Tobias Picker and directed by Walter Sutcliffe on December 13.

Matthias Pintscher

  • The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Christoph Eschenbach present Osiris on January 15 and 16.

Arvo Pärt

  • World premiere of new work for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, January 20, Esa-Pekka Salonen, conductor.
  • L'abbé Agathon sees the world premiere of its staged version performed by soprano Lauren Flanigan, and produced by American Opera Projects and Works and Process at the Guggenheim. Performances scheduled for January 11 and 12 at the Guggenheim Museum, New York.

Bernard Rands

  • Lorin Maazel and the New York Philharmonic perform the world premiere of "chains like the sea" on October 1 and 2.
  • The Cornell University Glee Club performs the world premiere of Trinity for a cappella male voices on September 28 at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.
  • PRISM sees its world premiere by the PRISM Saxophone Quartet on November 21 in Philadelphia, PA.

Joseph Schwantner

  • The second round of the Ford Made in America program kicks off with the world premiere of Schwantner's Chasing Light... by the Reno Chamber Orchestra conducted by Theodore Kuchar on September 20.

Howard Shore

  • The Fly receives its US premiere on September 7 at Los Angeles Opera conducted by Plácido Domingo and directed by David Cronenberg.
  • World premiere of Fanfare performed by organist Peter Richard Conte on the original Wanamaker Organ and the brass players of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Performance to take place at the Macy's flagship store in Philadelphia on September 27.

Alvin Singleton

  • World premiere of Brooklyn Bones for tenor soloist, chorus and chamber orchestra based on original text by Patricia Hampl celebrating the 100th anniversary and re-dedication of the Fort Greene Park Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Brooklyn. Performance scheduled for November 15 at Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn, NY.
  • New work for solo piano to be premiered by pianist Teresa McCollough on the Interpretations Series' 20th Anniversary Season, "Interpretations @ 20", Roulette, New York City, April 9.

Johannes Maria Staud

  • The Cleveland Orchestra closes their season with the world premiere of Staud's new work, commissioned by The Cleveland Orchestra as part of the Daniel R. Lewis Young Composer Fellowship, May 28, 29, 30.

Stewart Wallace

  • World premiere of The Bonesetter's Daughter at San Francisco Opera, conducted by Steven Sloane and directed by Chen Shi-Zheng. San Francisco Opera presents six performances from September 13 through October 12.

Kurt Weill

  • Carnegie Hall presents an evening of Weill songs by mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager and pianist Malcolm Martineau, April 23.
  • L'opera Français de New York presents the US premiere of Marie Galante, conducted by Yves Abel, on November 13, 15, 16.
  •  The Toronto Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Peter Oundjian performs The Seven Deadly Sins on October 1 and 2.

Jörg Widmann

  • Mariss Jansons conducts the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra through the US premiere of Con brio at Carnegie Hall on March 13.

Ian Wilson

  • in fretta, in vento sees its US premiere at Carnegie Hall, October 17 performed by Con Tempo String Quartet.
