Morton Subotnick's The Other Piano at Greenwich Village's Le Poisson Rouge
Le Poisson Rouge, the recently opened venue founded by musicians on the former site of downtown Manhattan's historic Village Gate, presents Kathleen Supové and Morton Subotnick performing Subotnick's The Other Piano on July 22. A multimedia art cabaret located in the heart of Greenwich Village at 158 Bleecker Street, Le Poisson Rouge is dedicated to the fusion of popular and art cultures in music, film, theater, dance and fine art. Eclectic music programming is at the center of its mission. By billing rock and electronic acts alongside works from the classical and jazz worlds, Le Poisson Rouge aims to bring the audiences of these all too disparate scenes together. Ronen Givony of the Wordless Music Series and music curator for Le Poisson Rouge comments on the music of Subotnick: It's great to present an exciting new large-scale piano work from Morton Subotnick. He has always straddled the worlds of classical, pop, and electronica. He has managed to be both an early pioneer and someone who stays current; it will be a real treat to have him guest in with Kathleen Supové, providing real time processing in surround sound.
