Most suitable for grade 3 to 4 standard players, this collection contains original compositions by nineteenth-century composers. Several of the pieces are available for the first time as part of a collection, which is presented in an order of ascending difficulty. The repertoire includes works by major composers, such as Chopin and Schumann, as well as lesser-known pieces by, amongst others, Bortkiewicz and Rimsky-Korsakov. The selection of repertoire is carefully balanced with music by composers of different nationalities.

The collection is ideal for piano teachers looking for additional repertoire for their teaching practice. It is intended to be both of pedagogical value to students and teachers, as well as indicative of the breadth and variety of romantic repertoire available. The teaching notes are also an interesting and useful addition to the book, and they are designed to help students by offering some suggestions on how to approach a particular piece.
