BBC Radio 3 Composer of the Week: Paul Hindemith
Paul Hindemith’s life and works will be featured from June 9th – 13th on BBC Radio 3’s ‘Composer of the Week’. The five programmes will explore Hindemith’s career from the First World War to his final years, including a performance of his best-known work, Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by C. M. von Weber, conducted by the composer himself.
Hindemith composed a wide repertoire of music, consisting of stage works, orchestral music, chamber music, solo-concertos, choral works and lieder. Furthermore, as a musicologist, he wrote a number of books and essays. In 1962, the year before his death, Hindemith was awarded the Balzan Prize for the magnitude of his work in contemporary music.
