Work of the Week - Joaquín Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez

Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez has to be the most significant as well as the best loved guitar concerto of all time. One fact about the work which you might not know is that it is one of the rare works available in Braille script, a notation system developed by Rodrigo who was blind from the age of three.

This week is a typical one in the life of this extraordinary concerto: on Monday 11th March it can be heard in Santa Barbara, California; Saturday in Braintree, Essex and on Sunday it features around the world at concerts in Aberdeen, Sydney, Kanagawa in Japan and the German city of Münster.
