John Casken Tribute Day

On Friday 25th January, John Casken's music will be celebrated with a full day of concerts in Manchester.  The day, which has been given the name, "ExtraVAGANZA for John Casken" will pay tribute to the distinguished professor who has taught at the university as head of department for over 15 years with a day of music to mark his retirement.  Four performances are programmed which will feature 7 of Casken's works, of which 2 will be world premieres.  Performers on the day will include members of Psappha, Richard Casey, Ian Buckle, Quatuor Danel and the Manchester University New Music Ensemble conducted by John Casken and the four concerts will all take place in The Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall at the Martin Harris Centre from 10.30am onwards. Works by John Casken will include Vaganza, Blue Medusa for bassoon and ensemble (world premier), Spring Cadenza, Piano Quartet, Salamandra and Shadowed Pieces (world premier).
