Work of the Week - Hans Pfitzner: Das Christelflein
Since its premiere in 1917, Hans Pfitzer's fairy tale opera Das Christelflein has been hugely popular work at Christmas. Its evocative overture is also a favourite in the concert hall, especially at this time of year. This year the Ore Mountains Symphony Orchestra under Dieter Klug and the Bochum Symphony with Harry Curtis are touring it in the German towns of Wattenscheid, Volmarstein, Aue, Annaberg and Bochum over the coming weeks.
