Work of the Week - Wolfgang Fortner: Carmen - Bizet Collagen

Last month on October 12, the music world celebrated the 100th anniversary of Wolfgang Fortner’s birth. In commemoration of the composer’s centenary, the Stuttgart State Opera and Stuttgart Ballet will perform Fortner’s Carmen - Bizet-Collagen on November 30.
 
One of Fortner's most popular works, Bizet-Collagen was composed in collaboration with his student Wilfried Steinbrenner, himself an editor at Schott, and represents a completely new view of the great opera. The performance is part of the Stuttgart Ballet’s “Cranko Moves Stuttgart” festival and will revive the legendary choreography by John Cranko, originally staged at the ballet’s world premiere in 1971
