Liverpool 2008 celebrates Hesketh and Martland
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra play a vital role in the life of Liverpool and are leading the way in celebrating the City's year as European City of Culture. They opened their 07/08 Season with a specially commissioned work by their Composer in the House, Kenneth Hesketh, a public performance in both Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall and a virtual concert hall in Second Life. Now the exciting Ensemble 10/10, the RLPO's contemporary music ensemble, kicks off its season this Wednesday 3 October by presenting Fra duri scogli by Hesketh and a commission from Steve Martland, Reveille, both Liverpool born composers.
This concert marks 10/10's debut in the Concert Room in the newly refurbished St. George's Hall, the neo-classical jewel in Liverpool's architectural crown. It will also celebrate the 'handover' of the Composer in the House scheme, devised and supported by the Royal Philharmonic Society in partnership with the PRS Foundation, from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with a performance of a work by their composer, Stephen McNeff alongside one by Hesketh.
