Work of the Week - Rodion Shchedrin: Slava, Slava

This week the Kronberg Academy is presenting its annual Cello Festival along with a memorial day - "in remembrance - celebrating Slava" - for Mstislav Rostropovich who died in April this year. Rodion Shchedrin will feature twice among the proceedings, firstly his new work Na pososhok - One for the Road for six celli and recorder will receive its world premiere. Secondly, his orchestral work Slava, Slava which is a gesture of friendship and love to one of the greatest cellists of our time will receive its German premiere on 3 October in the Alte Oper Frankfurt by the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under the direction of Neeme Järvi.
