Dutilleux: World Premiere of "Le temps l'horloge"

Since the oeuvre of Henri Dutilleux, the grand seigneur among the international composers, is relatively small, each new work by the ninetyone-year-old composer is awaited with eager anticipation. Four years after the world première of the orchestral songs Correspondances, Renée Fleming will perform the new vocal cycle Le temps l'horloge on 6 September at the Saito Kinen Festival in Matsumoto (J) with the Saito Kinen Orchestra under the baton of Seiji Ozawa. The work is a joint commission by the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France.

The texts by Jean Tardieu from his poem of the same name play with words like ‘temps’ and ‘horloge’ to convey the slipping of time, and Henri Dutilleux skillfully transfers this intellectual game to music.
