Howard Shore Joins Schott

Schott Music is proud to announce the signing of Howard Shore, one of the most respected, honored and active composers of film and concert music working today. Setting the standard for evocative and expressive film scores including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Shore creates music that is instantly recognizable and resonates long beyond the life of the film. His concert music is regularly performed by the world’s leading orchestras in many of the most prestigious international venues.

Shore conducted the première of The Lord of the Rings Symphony in Wellington, New Zealand in 2003 and since its premiere, the work has traveled to such noted venues as Moscow's Kremlin Palace Theater, the Odeon Herod Atticus in Athens, London's Royal Albert Hall and Cleveland's Severance Hall. Shore's scores for The Lord of the Rings trilogy were awarded four Grammys and three Oscars including ‘Best Song’ for Into the West. Shore’s music has also been heard at the Royal Festival Hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra; the Seville Film Music Festival in Spain; Cinesonic's 1st International Conference on Film Scores and Sound Design in Melbourne, Australia; and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada. Shore’s Concert to Projection of his original score to David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch premiered at the Belfast Festival in 2000.

Shore continues to distinguish himself with a wide range of projects and collaborations with such distinguished directors as Martin Scorsese, Tim Burton, and Jonathan Demme. He received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from York University in 2007 and has been honored by numerous organizations and institutions worldwide.

Howard Shore is currently writing The Fly, an opera commissioned by Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and Los Angeles Opera. The opera’s libretto is by David Henry Hwang and David Cronenberg will direct. The world première is scheduled for June 2008 at the Châtelet and September 2008 at LA Opera
