Wilhelm Killmayer: 80th Birthday on 21 August 2007
This autumn and next spring will see numerous concerts and first performances celebrating the 80th birthday of Wilhelm Killmayer. The Piano Festival Ruhr already dedicated a wholeday to his oeuvre: on 3 June 2007, Siegfried Mauser (piano) Christoph Prégardien (tenor), Gottfried Schneider (violin) and Sebastian Hess (violoncello) gave three programmes which related chamber music by Wilhelm to works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Rihm in a special compositional and aesthetic way. The third programme also included the world premiere of Killmayer’s new songs for tenor and piano based on texts by Eduard Mörike.
On 30 June 2007, the Bad Kissingen Summer Festival presented a major birthday concert with excerpts from his Heine-Liederbuch, the Hölderlin-Zyklus, piano works and works for violoncello and piano. On 14 and 15 August 2007, the festival AlpenKLASSIK in Bad Reichenhall saw the world premiere of Killmayer’s Goethe-Lieder.
The Munich College for Music and Theatre, where Killmayer taught as a professor of composition from 1973 to 1992 throws open its doors for a ‘Killmayer Night’ on 9 November 2007, with performances of numerous works form his rich orchestral, chamber music and vocal oeuvre. Eventually, on 11 and 12 February 2008, Killmayer’s Verschüttete Zeichen „Essay symphonique“ will be performed by the Bavarian State Orchestra under the direction of Kent Nagano.
A new catalogue of Wilhelm Killmayer’s works is in preparation. It will soon be available via our web site under No. KAT 57-99.
