Royal Festival Hall re-opens in London

The Royal Festival Hall in London re-opened its doors on 11 June 2007 after refurbishment. For two years, the hall has been shut whilst extensive work to improve the acoustics and facilities has taken place. The iconic building on the south bank of the River Thames welcomes audiences again with a season of exciting and diverse concerts.
Among the many highlights of the forthcoming season is a festival dedicated to the music of Luigi Nono. Luigi Nono: Fragments in Venice traces Nono's relationship with his home city and sees concerts given by the London Sinfonietta, Arditti String Quartet and Royal Academy of Music throughout the autumn.
In November, the London Philharmonic Orchestra dedicate three concerts to the music of Korngold. A concert featuring some of his best-known film scores including The Sea Hawk and The Constant Nymph takes place on 2 November. On 14 November the beautiful Violin Concerto can be heard with Nikolaj Znaider as soloist and chief conductor Vladimir Jurowski at the helm. Jurowski takes to the stage again on 21 November in a rare concert performance of Korngold's opera Das Wunder der Heliane.
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra brings Hindemith's Nobilissima Visione to the RFH with Riccardo Muti on 5 October and Alina Ibragimova directs the Britten Sinfonia in a performance of Hartmann's Concerto Funebre on 24 October.
Music by living composers also features strongly. Evening Songs by Mark-Anthony Turnage, the LPO's Composer in Association, will be performed on 2 February 2008 whilst the Philharmonia Orchestra will give a portrait concert of Peter Eötvös chamber music on 4 October.
Hans Werner Henze's music can be heard in two concerts: the Philharmonia Orchestra perform Adagio, Fugue & Manadentanz on 25 September with Christoph von Dohnanyi and the London Philharmonic Orchestra perform Sonata for strings with Vladimir Jurowski on 30 January.
